RCA Approves Temporary Rate Relief for Alaska Waste Customers.

On December 4, 2018, Alaska Waste sought approval of a temporary rate reduction on extra cans and bags to help Anchorage customers who are facing significant clean up efforts following the November 30th earthquake.

According to the tariff filing (TA118-692), the proposed emergency rates would be 50 percent the published tariff rates.  For example, for Zone 1, an extra can or an extra bag would be reduced from $3.05 to $1.53; for Zone 2, an extra can or an extra bag would be reduced from $3.59 to $1.80.  Extra large items would be reduced from $30.33 to $15.17.

Alaska Waste proposed that the reduced rates be in place on a temporary basis between December 4 and December 21, 2018, to allow its customers sufficient time to clean up and remove debris from their homes.

The RCA found that the public interest is best served by approval of the tariff filing effective December 4, 2018.  For more information, see Letter Order No. L1800483.

In addition to Alaska Waste's temporary reduced rates, all residential loads for the Municipality of Anchorage residents are accepted for free at both the Anchorage Regional Landfill and the Central Transfer Station through Saturday, December 8, 2018.
