RCA RESPONDS TO AEL&P EMERGENCY IN JUNEAU.

On April 16, 2008, an avalanche damaged the transmission lines connecting the Snettisham Hydroelectric Project to the City and Borough of Juneau. At least seven transmission towers were damaged.  It is estimated that it could take several months to restore the connection.

On April 22, 2008, AEL&P filed a tariff revision to implement an Emergency Fuel Cost Rate Adjustment.  Schedule No. 98 of AEL&P’s current operating tariff provides for emergency adjustments to AEL&P’s cost of power adjustment.

The RCA has reviewed AEL&P’s filing and finds it to be sufficient to support the proposed Emergency Fuel Cost Rate Adjustment. To view our decision, please click on the following link. https://rca.alaska.gov/RCAWeb/Orders/OrderDetails.aspx?id=e211bc3a-e075-4dc0-b14d-0d795bb41314

Within the limits of our process, the Alaska Statutes and our prior decisions, the RCA is willing to work with other agencies so that appropriate responses to this situation can be crafted.
