Fuel and Purchased Power Cost Rate Adjustment transition -
Notice of Utility Tariff Filing
The REGULATORY COMMISSION OF ALASKA (Commission) gives notice that Matanuska
Electric Association, Inc. (MEA), an electric utility, filed tariff revision TA447-18, seeking
Commission approval to transition from a Wholesale Power Cost Rate Adjustment
(WPCRA) to a Fuel and Purchased Power Cost Rate Adjustment (FPPCRA). A WPCRA
recovers costs associated only with the wholesale power purchases, as are currently
made by MEA from Chugach Electric Association, Inc. (Chugach). MEA proposes
switching to an FPPCRA in order to recover costs associated with both fuel and
purchased power as it begins self-generation at the Eklutna Generation Station. As this
filing seeks approval only of the formula and not of an actual rate, MEA will make a
second tariff advice filing to seek approval of the FPPCRA rate before January 2, 2015.
The proposed effective date for TA447-18 is January 2, 2015.
