Commissioner Steve D DeVries

Term: November 6, 2024 - March 1, 2027.

Commissioner Steve DeVries was appointed to the commission by Governor Mike Dunleavy in October 2024. Before his appointment, Commissioner DeVries represented the State of Alaska for 30 years in Alaska’s Department of Law. This included more than ten years of service before the RCA primarily representing the public interest on behalf of Alaska’s Attorney General in the department’s Regulatory Affairs and Public Advocacy Section. Commissioner DeVries also represented many other state agencies while at the Department of Law including the departments of Revenue, Natural Resources, Health and Social Services, and the Alaska Housing Finance Corporation before retiring in 2018 as the department’s Civil Division Director. Prior to his public service, Commissioner DeVries worked in private practice and also served as a superior court law clerk in Anchorage.

Commissioner DeVries received his B.A. from the State University of New York at Binghampton in 1980, and a law degree from the University of San Diego School of Law in 1986. He has been married to his wife Julia for 37 years. They have two daughters and two grandchildren.
