Commissioner Mark A. Johnston

Term: December 3, 2024 - March 1, 2028

Commissioner Mark Johnston was appointed to the commission by Governor Mike Dunleavy in December 2024. Before his appointment, Commissioner Johnston had more than 45 years of experience in both the private and public sectors. Commissioner Johnston has prior experience with utility regulation at Federal Energy Regulatory Commission and Alaska Public Utility Commission. Commissioner Johnston worked at State organizations including Alaska Railroad, Alaska Commission on Postsecondary Education, and with the University of Alaska Anchorage – College of Health. He held senior management positions with electric utilities, financial institutions, and an insurance agency. Commissioner Johnston served on non-profit boards including Anchorage Neighborhood Health Center, Anchorage Montessori School, and ML&P Asset Retirement Obligation Investment. 

Commissioner Johnston received his B.A. in Business Administration, with an emphasis in Accounting from the University of Nevada in 1990. He is a Certified Public Accountant licensed in Alaska. Commissioner Johnston has been married to his wife Jean for 21 years. They have a daughter, son, and four grandchildren.
