The RCA is recruiting for a Consumer Protection and Information Officer II. This
position supervises two professional staff and will collaborate with other RCA professional
and technical staff. Under general direction, the Consumer Protection and Information Officer
II plans, produces, and reviews public information to inform and educate the media, public,
industry representatives, legislators, and other state agencies about Regulatory Commission
of Alaska activities and decisions; works with industry and consumers to address the most
complex or controversial informal complaints; and supervises the Consumer Protection and
Information section. Consumer Protection and Information Officers receive and perform
investigations of complaints filed by customers or prospective customers of public utilities
regarding the services, rates, charges and facilities of public utilities; make recommendations
and advise the Commission concerning rules and policies governing the furnishing of utility
services to the public; counsel utility customers as to procedures for obtaining utility services
and for resolving disputes with utilities; and furnish information to the public regarding the
status of proceedings before the Commission and the effect of Commission decisions in
those proceedings.

part of a team as well as independently, and who can adapt quickly to new organizational
needs. The incumbent should have knowledge of utility regulation and know how to handle
news media, press releases and complaints. Required competencies include ability to clearly
explain matters to the public, and ability to work effectively under pressure and in stressful
situations.
