Anticipated GCI Network Outages in Rural Communities.
GCI Communications Corp. (GCI) customers may experience intermittent service
and outages in rural communities for a few days starting on August 11, 2010, due
to a wayward satellite interrupting communications services. The Regulatory
Commission of Alaska regulates intrastate telecommunications (local and long
distance) services. Generally, telephone utilities are required to clear out-of-service trouble reports within two to five days in accordance with 3 AAC 52.280;
however, this satellite outage is beyond the utility's
control and is lasting less than five days.
