RCA Approves Gas Supply Contract Between Chugach Electric & Marathon
Oil.
The Regulatory Commission of Alaska (RCA) approved a gas supply agreement
between Chugach Electric Association and Marathon Alaska Production, LLC,
filed in TA316-8 (Chugach-Marathon
GSA).
On April 2, 2010, Chugach sought approval of the Chugach-Marathon GSA to
help the utility meet its natural gas needs from April 2011 through December
2014. Chugach uses natural gas to generate about 90 percent of the electrical
power for its retail and wholesale-member customers.
Based on the record presented in the tariff proceeding, the RCA found that the
public interest is best served by approval of the Chugach-Marathon GSA (Letter Order L1000175).
Commissioner Paul F. Lisankie wrote a concurring statement, joined by
Chairman Robert M. Pickett.
