Fairbanks, Alaska -- The Regulatory Commission of Alaska (Commission) will hold a
consumer awareness hearing on the settlement agreement between Fairbanks
Natural Gas (FNG) and the Attorney General (AG) in Docket U-08-61. This docket
was opened by the Commission on its own motion on July 6, 2008, in response to a
request from a group of 14 legislators for the Commission to consider economic
regulation of FNG. The Commission established a procedural schedule and held
evidentiary hearings on February 24-25, 2009.
According to the settlement agreement, the parties stipulated that economic
regulation of FNG would not be in the public interest at this time and that FNG’s
current exemption from regulation should continue. The stipulation also includes
terms to protect FNG ratepayers and classes of customers. At the consumer
awareness hearing, FNG and the AG are required to explain the settlement
agreement and its terms and to respond to any questions from the public or
members of the commission.
Any party wishing to appear telephonically at the scheduled event must advise us in
advance and provide a telephone number where it may be reached for that
appearance. If you are a person with a disability who may need a special
