Cyber Security Awareness Month -

October is Cybersecurity Awareness Month, a national effort to raise awareness about the importance of cybersecurity.

Our theme for October is Secure Digital Exploration. Secure Digital Exploration means using the cybersecurity best practices we talk about in our organization – through awareness campaigns and quarterly trainings – to help us adjust to new technologies.

State government work increasingly utilizes digital environments—interconnected computers, networks, and applications that impact the way we interact, communicate, and fulfill our responsibilities across the state. As new technologies emerge and are incorporated into our workflows, one thing remains clear: We can’t afford to lose sight of the information security foundations that allow us to safely navigate our evolving IT landscape.

This month, we hope that you will explore new technologies and find secure and safe ways to use them. We know you’re busy, often juggling multiple tasks and competing priorities at once. So, we’re keeping our Cybersecurity Awareness Month campaign hyper-focused on the information that we believe is actionable and relevant to the work we do.

The Office of Information Technology (OIT) will send a total of four emails to State of Alaska employees as part of Cybersecurity Awareness Month. As we explore new IT opportunities, including utilizing secure AI tools, each email is intended to raise awareness about digital security and the everyday actions that help to keep our organization safe. Please make it a point to read through each email to keep up with our organization’s cybersecurity best practices.

You can find additional cybersecurity resources on our State of Alaska Cybersecurity Awareness Month website .
