Consumer Alert: The Regulatory Commission of Alaska warns of a “One Ring” phone scam being
reported in Alaska, Oregon and Western Washington. Automated dialers conduct thousands of
random calls to mobile numbers taken from public listings but disconnect after one ring. The
scammers count on a return call from the consumer who is then directed to expensive
international hotlines that can charge upwards of $19.95 to connect plus additional costs per
minute.
