RCA Welcomes Commissioner John Springsteen
Commissioner John Springsteen was appointed by Governor
Mike Dunleavy to the Regulatory Commission of Alaska in
May 2024. Commissioner Springsteen began his service to
Alaskans in 2014 with the Alaska Industrial Development and
Export Authority and was appointed its Executive Director
from 2015 to 2019. From 2019 to 2021, he served as Deputy
Commissioner of the Department of Commerce, Community,
and Economic Development, and in 2021 he joined the
Governor’s Office as Policy Advisor and Liaison to Alaska’s
State-Owned Corporations and Authorities. He has served on
the Boards of the Alaska Municipal Bond Bank Authority, the
Alaska Housing Finance Corporation, The Nature
Conservancy - Alaska, and the Alaska Seafood Marketing
Institute.
Before moving to Alaska, Commissioner Springsteen served
as an economic advisor to multinational corporations, as a
management consultant to industrial and high-tech
companies, and as Chief Financial Officer of a U.S. publicly
traded natural gas exploration company focused on coalbed
methane development. He began his career as an
environmental engineer.
Commissioner Springsteen received his undergraduate
degree in Civil Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute
of Technology and holds a Masters of Business
Administration from the Kellogg Graduate School of
Management, Northwestern University. He serves as an
Educational Counselor for the Massachusetts Institute of
Technology. He has been married to his wife Christy for 24
years and together finished raising their three children in
Alaska.
